Vassar Brothers Medical Center recently received approval for an expansion that includes a new inpatient pavilion in the southwest corner of the hospital campus. Totaling 696,440 gross square feet, the new addition will bridge Livingston Street, and house 264-private patient rooms, new emergency department, 30-critical care beds, loading dock, central plant expansion, interventional suite, conference center, café, helipad, and new hospital inpatient lobby. The new hospital campus will be developed into four distinct and separate zones – inpatient, outpatient, service, and emergency. Chazen completed a traffic impact study and parking study to identify the traffic and parking improvement needs of the expansion as well as full civil site design and SEQRA services.

Putnam Hospital Center

Carmel, NY

In anticipation of the construction of a 42,000-square foot Ambulatory Care Center and an additional 50,000 square feet of medical office space, Chazen conducted a parking analysis, including determinations of peak use of the existing parking lots.

 

New York-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital

Bronxville, NY

Chazen provided professional services for the construction of the Cancer Center and Operating Room relocation project, a three-story addition to the hospital. Chazen services included conceptual planning, SEQRA, site planning, landscape architecture, water services, sanitary design, storm water management, and construction planning and administration. The project added 41,923 square feet to the existing facility, including medical care facilities on three levels, a basement and a third floor to accommodate mechanicals and roof gardens.

Ellis Hospital Phase I/II/Pre-Demolition Survey

Schenectady, NY

Chazen conducted a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) of a former recreational vehicle sales and service property. The report was prepared consistent with current standards and also met the requirements of the US Housing and Urban Development Agency (HUD). The scope of work included evaluation of potential vapor encroachment, wetlands, endangered species/significant habitats, noise, explosive/flammable hazards, sole source aquifers and airport clear zones. The property included a showroom, offices, vehicle maintenance and service areas, a modular office trailer, vehicle storage and residences.

After the completion of the Phase I ESA, Chazen conducted a Phase II ESA to assess the recognized environmental conditions and significant data gaps identified during the Phase I. The Phase II investigation included a ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey, shallow and subsurface soil sampling and analysis at drainage and tank areas, shallow groundwater and potable water sampling and analysis, and visual inspection of the interior of a holding tank. During site redevelopment for a new medical facility, no additional environmental issues were discovered. Chazen’s asbestos inspector also performed a pre-demolition asbestos survey of site buildings.

St. Peter’s Hospital

Albany, NY

A $275M Master Facilities Expansion project included the construction of a new six-story tower as well as the creation of upwards of 1,000 new parking spaces in an expanded parking garage, and renovating and replacing more than 500,000 square feet of existing diagnostic and treatment facilities. Chazen was the lead planning and site design consultant on this project which included organizing all project consultants for the development the draft and final environmental impact statements. Associated studies included traffic impact studies, water and wastewater studies, site circulation studies and neighborhood growth inducing analysis. During the second phase of the project Chazen’s team of landscape architects and engineers completed a campus wide redevelopment master plan and implementation strategy. The plan included a complete redesign of on-site roadway and related pedestrian circulation systems, development of a new parking management system and modification of nearly all on-site utilities.

Ellis Hospital Critical Care Unit

Schenectady, NY

Chazen completed civil engineering, landscape architecture, and planning services for the addition of Ellis Hospital’s new Critical Care Unit (CCU) addition. The four-story facility was located on one of the few remaining large, lawn areas on the hospital campus adjacent to the hospital’s main entrance. Numerous utilities servicing the existing hospital access the building through the open area, and required extensive rerouting and modification to accommodate the new addition. Management of storm water runoff changes was a significant challenge for the project requiring the design of a subsurface management system capable of handling heavy truck loading. Chazen also completed full redesign and regrading of the oncology parking lot to accommodate a new mobile MRI facility and a bus stop for the Employee Shuttle.

Hudson Valley Hospital Center

Cortland, NY

Chazen completed a full campus as-built survey, and provided civil engineering and landscape architectural design for a major expansion of the Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortland.

The project included:

  • 60,000 square foot three-story medical office building
  • 15,000 square foot two-story north wing addition
  • 60,000 square foot four-story south wing addition
  • 45,000 square foot three-story parking garage and site circulation improvements

Chazen was responsible for water, sewer, stormwater and utility relocations, reconfiguration of highway entrances to improve automobile circulation patterns, ground level parking redesign to address the new hospital building exit design and landscape improvements designed to complement the proposed architecture. Chazen provided observation and inspection services throughout the construction process.
