Heritage Block Improvement Project

August 2, 2017

Chazen provided a funding solution to a blighted downtown area comprised of both public and private entities. Chazen helped secure $540,000 in GIGP funding to install an innovative green parking lot, bioretention areas, porous pavers and planters within a downtown area situated between Mechanic Street and Lackawanna Avenue referred to as the “Heritage Block”.

There was a specific interest in improving this area because of the lack of storm sewers or stormwater management features within the block or even nearby, an issue resulting in constant parking area repairs and maintenance. The installation of these measures will improve a blighted area, improve the quality of water received by the Chenango River, improve vehicular circulation and make the City streets more walkable.
