Chazen provided technical oversight for the installation and monitoring of the performance of an ERH soil treatment system at a New York State Superfund Clean-up Site. The site was a former chemical manufacturing and warehouse facility. The on-site soils and groundwater were significantly impacted with chlorinated solvents. The treatment system involved over 100 subsurface six-phase heating elements that used direct current to raise the soil temperatures to over 150°C from grade to 80 feet below grade and a soil off-gas collection system to capture soil and vapor. Recovered vapor and air was treated with large liquid and air phase granulated activated carbon prior to discharge. Chazen personnel collected weekly system and monthly site wide monitoring data, assisted with the system performance evaluations, and prepared and submitted all required system monitoring reports to NYSDEC and the City.
