IDA Yarbrough Homes Redevelopment

August 2, 2017

Chazen was responsible for all elements of site design and administering the SEQRA and regulatory review and approval processes for the reconstruction of the IDA Yarbrough housing development. With grade changes of over 50 feet from east to west, the project site presents significant design challenges. By taking advantage of the architecture of the new buildings to function as retaining walls, the site design stepped the floor elevations across the site while incorporating substantial increases in greenspace and developing common outdoor open space for future residents. With an attention to green-conscious client objectives, the site design and the architecture work together to incorporate elements such as a community garden area with rain water harvesting for irrigation, naturalistic play areas, low-maintenance plantings, and energy efficient buildings. More specifically, on behalf of the owner, Chazen helped secure GIGP funding to create green roof systems and bioretention systems to meet local stormwater management regulations.
