Round Lake Road Corridor Plan

August 3, 2017

Saratoga County continues to be the fastest growing County in New York State. Much of this growth can be attributed to the area’s high quality of life and establishment of  the GLOBALFOUNDRIES chip fabrication plant. Increased traffic demand on local roadways has been problematic in some locations. One area of concern has been Interstate 87’s Exit 11 Round Lake Road corridor. Facing a 30% increase in traffic over the next decade, Malta asked Chazen to help prepare a complete streets plan for the corridor that would complement the area’s existing small-scale commercial and residential neighborhood characteristics.

Adopted as a comprehensive plan amendment, the Malta Round Lake Road Corridor Plan was added to the Capital District Transportation Committee’s (CDTC) Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP), which resulted in a $4.75M funding award. Portions of the project were also awarded $250,000 of Safe Routes to School funding. The plan included improved and expanded sidewalks, bike lanes (with access to the County’s Zim Smith Bike Trail), bus stops, planted medians, single lane roundabouts, controlled access and wayfinding signage.
