SUNY New Paltz – Student Union Building

August 9, 2017

Chazen provided civil/site design, land survey and geotechnical engineering services for the Student Union Building renovation and addition project. The project included an 11,000-square foot transparent glass addition located on the elevated Haggerty Plaza. Existing offices below the Plaza were retained and renovated. Utility relocations included stormwater and sanitary sewer relocations coordinated and accomplished through internal building routing in the new addition. Described as the most environmentally-friendly project on the campus, the new addition utilizes several energy-efficient and sustainable design practices including low/zero impact mechanical and electrical support systems, daylight harvesting, incorporated materials with low volatile organic compounds, and salvaging or recycling 50% of the construction and demolition by-products.
