Town of Newcomb

November 6, 2017

Working with Chazen, the Town updated its existing Comprehensive Plan and set out to implement one of its key recommendations: the development of a corridor plan for NYS Route 28N, which serves as its “Main Street”. Chazen helped the Town prepare a NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Adirondack Park Community Smart Growth Program Grant, which was awarded in 2011 and helped the Town prepare a Complete Streets Plan to connect land uses and enhances key resources including Overlook Park, Newcomb Central School, Great Camp Santanoni, Town Hall, Huntington Wildlife Forest, and the Adirondack Interpretive Center.

The Plan included a series of multi-use trails, development of shared roadways, sidewalks, community park and recreation improvements. Chazen assisted Newcomb with exploring ways to incorporate place-making design features and amenities throughout the corridor including wayfinding signage, landscaping improvements and utility upgrades.  Newcomb integrated the initiative with a comprehensive marketing and branding strategy designed to attract new visitors and bolster its economy.
