Rensselaer County Wastewater Treatment Facility

Rensselaer, NY

Chazen designed a $3 million improvement project at the Rensselaer County Sewer District #1 Wastewater Treatment Facility. Improvements to the 24 MGD activated sludge treatment plant include the replacement of the primary clarifier internals, grit/primary sludge pumps and piping, primary sludge grit removal equipment, primary clarifier inlet channel aeration piping and diffusers, and existing plant water pumping systems and intake strainer. These improvements allowed the treatment facility to comply with the Albany Pool CSO Long Term Control Plan.

 

Hamburgh Street Sewer District

Rotterdam, NY

Chazen provided engineering services for the installation of sanitary sewer infrastructure along Hamburg Street. The scope of work for the project included the preparation of a map, plan and report, an engineering study, plans and specifications, and construction inspection services. The project included approximately 6,700 linear feet of 12-inch diameter gravity sewers, 4,700 linear feet of 6-inch diameter force main (including the crossing of an existing CSX railway), and a pump station with average daily flows of 49,000 gallons per day.

Town of East Greenbush Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades

East Greenbush, NY

Chazen completed a plant evaluation and report that recommended modifying processes which increased the thru-put of the plant to handle wet weather flows without compromising treatment. The evaluation and report was used to gain NYSDEC approval and to support funding through NYSEFC. Improvements include new headworks with grit and screening removal, additional primary clarification, revised biological treatment including the ability to operate as a contact stabilization process, additional secondary clarification, ultraviolet disinfection and belt press dewatering of bio-solids. Chazen also provided construction phase administration and observation services.

 

Pawling Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades

Pawling, NY

Chazen designed upgrades to the Village of Pawling Wastewater Treatment Plant to increase the plant’s treatment capacity and add phosphorous removal, aerobic anoxic digestion and sludge dewatering. Major challenges included phasing and coordination with existing treatment systems which had to remain online during construction and odor control due to the plant’s location near an elementary school.

Wastewater Treatment Plant and Pump Station Improvements

Lake George, NY

Chazen evaluated and designed improvements to various operational components of the Village of Lake George’s wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Improvements included a new septage receiving station and associated building and pump station, improvements to the secondary clarifiers, a new secondary sludge transfer pump and repurposing of the existing sludge transfer pump to pump only supernatant from the dewatering belt press. The project also included the rehabilitation of approximately half of the WWTP rapid infiltration beds.

Chazen also designed improvements to the Village’s Shepard’s Park Pump Station. This included replacement of three existing pumps, along with all required controls, SCADA and electrical upgrades.
